Last month I had the privilege of speaking at an Innovative Aging Conference hosted by Texas A&M University Corpus Christi. The embarrassing photo above was taken during an aging simulation to educate researchers and professionals about the effects that aging have on our 5 senses. We had to conduct daily living tasks with aging modified sight of 20/60, reduced air intake, desensitized touch and limited hearing. It was hard to imagine driving, opening medicine bottles and listening intently for information. It gave me a new awareness into the world that seniors live in. For instance, I learned that blues are harder shades to see as opposed to red, yellow and orange. It's made me rethink some of the flyers and papers we post in our office.
As the modern world evolves and pushes us to live faster, stronger and longer there is something to be said for the way things have been. It's nice to make the time to get to know your neighbor, to know someone is there nearby that cares. Life is comprised of millions of small moments that result in large feelings. The feeling of being connected, safe, known and valued. The whole design of The Cottages at Heritage Lakes is to foster that type of community. So that as people age they can do it in community with others who understand exactly where they are in life. Friends who can be a resource or companion. We love the residents here at The Cottages at Heritage Lakes, love to see them walking around the ponds and enjoying sunsets together. We're thankful for the opportunity to create a different type of community nestled in Pflugerville, Texas that has all the feels of home and comfort.
